Walden is Changing for Spring

Spring and the water is back                                                          IMG_6575

It happens so quickly

Last week,  a corridor

Only a sliver of pond in a field of white ice flats

Today if my bones weren’t worn cold by winter’s aging

I could plunge into her and swim

Today is my daughters’ birthdays

They are fifteen

Teenagers, almost young women

Both of them growing stronger every day

Different as earth and sun

Roots and wings

As I am older than when I bore them

In Philadelphia

In an early spring

When daffodils were blooming

Tulips dotted the garden beds

How time changes

Just as Walden changes in one week

From white flats to blue ripples

Under sun and birds calling Spring
